"Freedom Series" motor starters and contactors manufactured by Cutler Hammer are available in two rating/configuration styles - NEMA (National Electrical Manufactures Association) and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission). The NEMA devices are sized based on traditional NEMA classifications and the IEC devices on international ratings. Internationally rated starters and contactors, as compared to NEMA devices, generally are physically down sized to provide higher ratings in a smaller package. However, electrical load/life ratings are correspondingly reduced.

Full Voltage Motor Starters

NEMA rated Non Reversing starter. The AN16 Motor Starter is available in sizes 00 to 6. Voltage range is from 115 to 600 volts at 60Hz. Horse power rating is from 1/3 to 600 depending on NEMA size and voltage.

IEC rated Non Reversing starter. AE16 Motor Starters meet or exceed I.E.C., UL, CSA, VDE, BS and other international standards and listings. These starters are available in IEC sizes A thru K. The AE16 comes in three starter frame sizes - 45 mm, 65 mm and 90 mm.

NEMA Rated - Reversing starter. The AN56 motor starter is a three phase, full voltage magnetic starter used primarily for reversing squirrel cage motors. They consist of two contactors and a single overload relay assembled together. The contactors are mechanically and electrically interlocked to prevent line shorts and the activation of both contactors simultaneously.

IEC rated - Reversing starter. AE56 - Starters meet or exceed I.E.C., UL, CSA, VDE, BS and other international standards and listings. These three phase, full voltage magnetic starters are the IEC equivalent of the AN56 line of reversing starters documented above. The AE56 comes in three frame sizes - 45 mm, 65 mm and 90 mm.

Combination Starters

Non - Reversing With Motor Circuit Switch. The AN30 combines the AN16 line of starters with a motor control circuit. The motor circuit switch can be purchased separately.

Non - Reversing With HMCP Motor Circuit Protector. The AN40 combines the AN16 line of contactors with a freedom series motor control circuit. In addition, motor circuit protection is provided by a HMCP circuit breaker.

Reversing With Motor Circuit Switch. The AN70 combines the AN56 line of contactors with a freedom series motor control circuit which allows for the reversing of squirrel cage motors. The contactors are mechanically and electrically interlocked to prevent line shorts and the activation of both contactors simultaneously.

Reversing With HMCP Motor Circuit Protector. The AN80 line combines the AN56 starter with a motor control circuit and HMCP circuit breaker protection.

Irrigation Pump Controls

The AN800 and AN801 Irrigation Pump Controllers feature Cutler Hammer Freedom Series starters. They have a hands off-Auto selector switch and a start pushbutton mounted in the side of the enclosure and reset button on the front. The AN801 comes with a HMCP circuit breaker. All Irrigation Pump Controls come mounted in a NEMA 3R Rainproof & sleet Resistant Enclosure.

Contactors

Contactors are most commonly used to switch motor loads in applications where running over current protection is either not required or is provided separately. Contactors consist of a magnetically actuated switch which can be remotely operated by a push button station or pilot device

NEMA Rated Non Reversing - The CN15 contactor line is designed specifically for use in applications requiring NEMA ratings. Southland stocks these contactors in NEMA sizes 00 to 6.

NEMA Rated Reversing - The CN55 reversing contactors are used primarily for reversing single or three phase motors in applications where running over current protection is provided elsewhere. They consist of two contactors mechanically and electrically interlocked to prevent line shorts and activation of both contactors simultaneously. Available in NEMA sizes 00 thru 6.

Lighting - Electrically Held - The CN35 magnetically held Lighting Contactors are designed to handle the switching of tungsten and ballast lamp loads as well as other non-motor loads. These contacts are available in ampere ratings of 10, 20, 30 and 60. Frame sizes are 45mm, and 65mm
